COMING UP THIS WEEK
Thursday evening, The North Charlotte Lupus Support Group will meet at 6:30pm at LiveWELL Carolinas! in Northlake Mall. Their meetings are free and gather the second Thursday of each month. Davidson College invites interested community members to a screening of the documentary “Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry” in conjunction with an exhibit of his work in the Smith Gallery at 6:30pm in the Belk Visual Arts Center. (UPDATE: the Ai Weiwei film is postponed to Feb. 26.) Mark Stanback of Davidson College will discuss “Competition Between Bluebirds and Brown-Headed Nuthatches” at the Mooresville Public Library at 7pm. Summit Coffee will host The Vel-Crows for an evening of live music, starting at 8pm, in downtown Davidson.

On Friday, Davidson College presents another “Musical Interludes” concert featuring music students who will share interpretations of concertos on their respective instruments. The event is free and begins at 12:30pm. An artist’s reception for an award-winning photographer Clayton Joe Young will be held at Davidson Town Hall for his exhibit “Mountain Folk – Traditional Ways of Life in Watauga County and Surrounding Areas.” The Davidson Community Players will hold open auditions for James and the Giant Peach Friday at 5:30pm-7:30pm and Saturday from 10am-12pm at the Armour Street Theatre. The Mike Strauss Trio will play a Valentine’s Day show at Summit Coffee, starting at 8pm at Summit’s downtown location.
UPDATE: The 2nd Friday Art Crawl in Downtown Cornelius at the Oak Street Mill has been called off because of uncertainty about the weather.
Saturday morning starts with World of Wonder’s Herpetology Lab Visit at the Davidson College Herpetology Lab at 10am. RSVP for a spot to meet and learn about some amazing reptiles and amphibians. The Davidson Women’s Basketball team takes on Georgia Southern at home in Belk Arena at 2pm – tickets and more info available at davidsonwildcats.com. “Love is in the Air” Comedy Improv, a show presented by the Charlotte improv theatre group the Chuckleheads, opens at the Warehouse Performing Arts Center at 6pm (family friendly show) and 8pm (adult language/situations). The Davidson Community Players will hold auditions for “42nd Street” from 6-9pm at Community School of Davidson. The Rusty Rudder in Cornelius will host the band Blue Monday for a night of live music, starting at 10:30pm and lasting until the early morning.

This Sunday, a class titled “God’s Invasion Underway” will meet again at 9:45am in the Davidson College Presbyterian House to discuss apocalyptic theology. The Davidson Historical Society will offer a lecture called Murder on South Street, the story of the 1914 murder that shocked Mecklenburg County, at 3pm in Summit Coffee. Sunday evening, Davidson College presents an evening of jazz featuring pianist Riley Mangan ’16 and fellow students at 7:30pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall.
