This Week, Davidson College invites the public to numerous lectures including the annual Smith Lecture, to be delivered this year by Nobel Physics Prize Laureate John Cromwell Mather. Also this week, food truck Wednesdays continue at the Oak Street Mill, the Davidson Community Players are holding open auditions, and the Lake Norman Kiwanis Club will meet and is welcoming new members. COMING UP THIS WEEK

Monday evening starting at 7pm, the Counseling Center at DUMC will continue offering its weekly Teens Helping Teens support group for youth ages 13-18. The Lake Norman Marine Commission will meet at 7pm at the Charles Mack Citizens Center in Mooresville to discuss a variety of issues affecting the Lake Norman Community, and all interested citizens are encouraged to attend.  Also Monday evening, Davidson College’s Vann Center for Ethics invites the public to a talk titled “Dragnet Nation: The Ethics of Privacy and Security in the Digital Age” at 7:30pm in Hance Auditorium.

This Tuesday the North Mecklenburg Senior Center will have a free Estate Planning Clinic at 11am at the Senior Center, conducted by Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont and the Charlotte School of Law. Lake Norman Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Support Group will meet at 11:45am and is open to anyone affected by cancer. The Davidson Town Board will meet at 6pm at Davidson Town Hall to hold its regular monthly meeting.

Davidson College invites the public to several events on Tuesday, starting with a lecture called “The Scent of Desire” at 7pm in the Alvarez College Union that will explore the psychological sense of smell. Milner Professor of Music and trumpet instructor Bill Lawing will present a faculty recital at 7:30pm with pianist and artist associate Cynthia Lawing in Tyler-Tallman Hall. Also at 7:30pm, the public is invited to attend an anthropology lecture on the “Use of Ancient DNA to Understand the Origin and Spread of Dogs” in the Belk Visual Arts Center.

Wednesday means food trucks at the Oak Street Mill in Cornelius as a part of Lunch in the Lot, which lasts from 11am-2pm each week. Davidson Senior Scholars features a program on “A Day in the Life of the White House’s National Security Council” with Russell Crandall, associate professor of political science at Davidson College at 1pm at Davidson Town Hall. Later that evening, the Lake Norman Regional Transportation Commission will meet at 6:30pm at the Davidson Town Hall. The Davidson Community players will hold their final day of open auditions for 42nd Street at 7pm at the Community School of Davidson High School.

Wednesday evening astrophysicist, cosmologist, and Nobel Prize in Physics laureate John Cromwell Mather will deliver the annual Smith Lecture on “The History of the Universe from Beginning to End, and Observing with the James Webb Space Telescope.” The talk is free and begins at 7:30pm in the Smith 900 Room of the Alvarez College Union.

Thursday morning, the Lake Norman Kiwanis Club will meet at 7:30am at the Acropolis Restaurant and welcomes individuals interested in joining. Main Street Books will host Story Time for Children aged 5 and under at 10am.
