
As January comes to a close the events calendar is filled with celebrations, meetings, and art events. Green Drinks Lake Norman begins its year with a talk on solar and renewable energy, and music and theatre performances are scheduled throughout the weekend. Davidson College women and men’s basketball teams play home games, including a Saturday afternoon men’s game that will honor coach Bob McKillop on 25 years of coaching and recognize new inductees into the Davidson Athletics Hall of Fame. COMING UP THIS WEEK
Thursday at 5:30, Green Drinks Lake Norman starts off their year with Mike Whitson of PCG Solar to discuss all things solar and renewable. The Lake Norman Conservatives will host several US Senate GOP hopefuls at its first ever meeting at 6pm at the Fox and the Hound, and the Lake Norman Kiwanis Club will host its first Quarterly Social of the year at 6pm at the Port City Club.
At 7pm, Davidson College invites the public to a lecture on artificial intelligence by documentarian and alumni author James Barrat at 7pm in Hance Auditorium of the Chambers Building. Also at the college Thursday evening, Davidson Men’s Basketball takes on Chattanooga at home. Tip off is at 7pm.
On Friday, Woodland Discovery will preview the film “School’s Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten” as a part of their open house at their campus. The Davidson Community Players Connie Company, in collaboration with the Community School of Davidson, will present the play Cinderella with several showtimes this weekend – two on Friday and three on Saturday – starting at 4:30pm on Friday.
Friday evening, The Bindu dedicates its new location in Cornelius at 7pm and invites the public to join as they celebrate and dedicate their new sacred space. Davidson College invites the public to attend a free Jazz Ensemble performance featuring guitarist Dustin Hofsess and Trumpeter Bill Lawing at 7:30pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall.

This Saturday, the Davidson Housing Coalition hosts its annual Souper Bowl soup cook-off from 11am-1:30pm at Davidson College’s Lilly Family Gallery in the Chambers Building. The event is a fundraiser for the coalition’s HAMMERS emergency home repair program. At 1pm, the Acupuncture Center for Balance and Healing well celebrate their move as well as the Chinese New Year (Year of the Horse) from 1-4pm in Davidson.
On the basketball court, the Davidson women take on Chattanooga at home in Belk Arena at noon, and the Davidson Men’s Basketball team takes on The Citadel at 4pm. The afternoon game also includes ceremonies recognizing Bob McKillop for his 25 years of coaching at Davidson and honoring the four new Davidson Athletics Hall of Fame inductees.
Sunday afternoon, international Celtic performer Jamie Laval will perform with North Carolina guitarist David Brown at Davidson College in Tyler-Tallman Hall at 3pm. The Lake Norman Jugglers Club will hold its regular meeting at 3pm in the Ada Jenkins Center gym. DavidsonLearns will begin its class on The Case of Israel and Palestine at 3:30pm at Temple Kol Tikva.
