I know what you’re thinking: Who wants to focus on food after the holidays when all we’ve done since Thanksgiving is eat? But bear with me as what I’m suggesting might be the perfect way to approach our relationship with food for the rest of this new year.

Tour De Food Davidson lets you eat and walk at the same time while learning about the history of Davidson through visits to its quaint shops and fine dining establishments. Burn off calories as you consume them during intimate encounters with some of the most talented local chefs in town while sampling their culinary delights.

Sound good? This walking food tour happens every other weekend in downtown Davidson. The first 2014 tour is this Saturday, Jan. 4, beginning at 1:30pm.

Reserve your space now and see for yourself if it isn’t guilt-free eating. Beginning at Brick House Tavern on Delburg Street and winding through town, participating stops along the way include Campania, Wooden Stone Gallery, The Soda Shop, and Toast, to name a few.

Tour De Food Davidson is part of a group of tours operating in and around Charlotte’s eclectic and culinary neighborhoods, such as Uptown and NoDa, with additional tours taking place in the cities of Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Private tours can also be arranged. Tickets are all inclusive of the small plates offered at each of the 6-7 stops with beer and wine pairings matched for some. Gratuity is also included so all you need to bring is an appetite, a good pair of walking shoes, and umbrella if it’s raining (tours held rain or shine.)

Saturday’s tour is $47 and can be purchased online by visiting Brown Paper Tickets.

Don’t let overindulgence during the Holidays ruin your love of food. Just approach it differently and walk while you eat. And don’t think that just because you’re local, you won’t enjoy this weekend pick.

We can all stand to benefit from being a tourist at home once in while.
