The year is winding down, and several communities in the region are holding final civic meetings before the start of 2014. The Lincoln County Commission is expected to consider plans by Strata Solar LLC for a solar farm near Lake Norman at its meeting Monday at 6:30pm in Lincolnton. The bimonthly Cornelius Town Board meeting is at 7pm at Cornelius Town Hall. Exams are in full swing on the Davidson College campus, where public events have come to a halt. Also, the live radio play version of “Miracle on 34th Street” continues this weekend at Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. Read on for more highlights from this week’s calendar.

Wednesday, The Davidson Career Transition Program will meet at 10am at Davidson United Methodist Church (DUMC). The project is a joint initiative sponsored by Davidson College Presbyterian Church and DUMC that meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Lunch in the Lot continues from 11am to 2pm, featuring an area food truck, at the Oak Street Mill.

Wednesday evening, the Rotary Club of Davidson will meet at 5:30pm at the Lake Norman YMCA. The Rotary Club of Davidson is looking for new members interested in serving the community and the world – join them Wednesday evening and see how you can get involved. The Davidson Design Review Board will hold a meeting Wednesday night at 7pm in Davidson Town Hall to discuss sign plans, exterior renovations, and a minor revision to a proposed development.
‘MIRACLE’ AND OTHER WEEKEND FARE
Davidson Community Players have more performances Thursday to Sunday of their holiday show “Miracle on 34th Street,” a radio play adaptation of the classic holiday movie. Read more about it in Connie Fisher’s review, “Davidson, you’re on the air.” Elsewhere, Central United Methodist Church in Mooresville presents its holiday concert, “A Central Christmas,” on Saturday. The weekend also brings Mt. Zion United Methodist Church’s “Heart of Christmas” concert, and it’s time again for Dance Davidson’s “Christmas Spectacular” winter show.
Davidson College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are on hiatus for exams, but they’ll both return to the court with games on Saturday – the women vs. UNC Charlotte at home and the men at North Carolina, in Chapel Hill.
