Thistledown Tinkers play Sunday at St. Alban’s in Davidson.
Winter is in the air this weekend, with numerous holiday activities across the Lake Norman Region. Christmas in Davidson returns Thursday to Saturday on Main Street in downtown Davidson. Opening ceremonies are tonight (Thursday) at 6pm, and numerous events such as a Doggie Fashion Show tomorrow at 7pm and a Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest on Saturday 7pm will take place throughout the weekend. COMING UP THIS WEEK
Today, the Cornelius PARC Commission will meet at 5:30pm in the Manager’s Conference Room (Room 217) of Cornelius Town Hall. The Davidson Community Players production of “Miracle on 34th Street“ opens this evening and runs through the 22nd, with shows Thursday – Saturday at 8pm and a Sunday show at 2pm.
Tonight, DavidsonNews LLC founder and editor David Boraks, the James K. Batten Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Davidson College this fall, will lecture on “CommunityNews-dot-Net: How the Web is Transforming Community News – and Communities.” The lecture begins at 7:30pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall at Davidson College.
Friday, local pre-schoolers and their parents are invited to the annual Cocoa with Santa gathering from 9:30am – 11:30am at the Cornelius Arts Center. Enjoy arts and crafts, warm cocoa, and a visit with Santa. The Doggie Fashion Show will be held as a part of Christmas in Davidson Friday evening at the Davidson Public Library at 7pm – register online at www.christmasindavidson.com.

On Saturday, the 4th annual Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale returns to Birkdale Village from 10am – 6pm. Bank of America will match all raised dollars at the event. The North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade steps off from North Main Street in Davidson at 1pm. Hosted by the Davidson and Cornelius Fire Departments, it’s one of the largest holiday events in the Lake Norman area and is expected to draw nearly 3,000 marchers.
Saturday evening, Davidson Men’s Basketball takes on Johnson & Wales at home in Belk Arena at 5:30pm. Christmas in Davidson’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest starts at 7pm at the Davidson Public Library – no pre-registration is required, just show up in your ugly sweater. The BrickRow Small Works Invitational opens from 6pm – 8pm, and will feature numerous local artists’ work for display and sale at the Brick Row Gallery in Cornelius.
This Sunday, join St. Alban’s for a holiday treat of traditional Celtic music with Southern style with the Thistledown Tinkers at 3pm at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. A meet the artist reception follows the concert. Davidson United Methodist Church will host a Lessons and Carols service at 5pm in the sanctuary, featuring familiar Christmas carols and themes. Davidson College’s annual Christmas Vespers, a concert of sacred lessons and carols, will be held at 7:30pm in the sanctuary of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
