This weekend, numerous community events and fundraisers are on the calendar, as well as lectures and theatre openings. Tonight, the North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club hosts their 5th annual “Over the Tabletop Fundraiser” to benefit the Build Betty a House project at 6pm at the Peninsula Country Club. They will also gather tomorrow at 10am. Our Towns Habitat is hosting their annual “Tastes of Habitat” fundraiser at 6:30pm at the Charles Mack Citizens Center in Mooresville to benefit Women Build event. Also this Thursday, local entrepreneur Thorin Thompson will host a launch party for a kickstarter campaign to fund the development of their new board game Fortress Moon at Parker Banner Kent and Wayne Comic Shop in Cornelius at 7pm. Davidson Day School presents Little Shop of Horrors tonight at 7pm, along with Sunday shows at 2pm and 7pm. Davidson College welcomes the public to attend a lecture on multicultural studies and social justice, titled “You Seem Like a Pied Man: Indian Violence and Racial Binary in the Jim Crow South,” at 7pm in the Chambers Building’s Hance Auditorium. Also, Davidson College invites the public to a Dinner at Hogwarts tonight from 5pm-7:15pm at Vail Commons dining hall.
This Friday, The North Meck Senior Center is honoring veterans with an education seminar along with social time and snacks at the center starting at 10:30am. Davidson College encourages interested community members to attend another lecture, titled “A Spineless Tale: Those Amazing Cephalopods” in Room 146 of the Dana Science Building. Summit Coffee will be hosting a dark beer tasting – Mo’ Beer, Please – upstairs at The Freckled Dog Pub from 5-8pm as part of their Movember Celebration, and the Second Friday Art Crawl in Downtown Cornelius at the Oak Street Mill will be held from 5pm – 8pm.

Saturday, the Davidson Lands Conservancy presents the 3rd annual “Saturday in the Park” at Fisher Farm Park featuring hikes, kids activities, a bonfire and a rare opportunity to spend the night at Fisher Farm. ‘Saturday in the Park’ is also a great time to explore the natural beauty of 200 acre Fisher Farm. The 18th Annual Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials & Dog Festival will start at 9am and last until 5pm at Historic Rural Hill, featuring sheepdog trials, hayrides, the Amazing Maize Maze, food trucks, and more. The trials last through Sunday evening. Davidson Community Players’ presentation of Narnia, The Musical, opens Saturday at 1pm and 4pm, with showtimes through the 17th.
Sunday afternoon, the Davidson Lands Conservancy annual meeting will be held at the West Branch Nature Preserve in Davidson.
On Veteran’s Day, The Town of Davidson and The Town of Cornelius will each host a Veterans Day commemorations in town. Davidson’s Veterans Day commemoration will be held at 11am on the Village Green, featuring keynote speaker Col. Quincy Collins. Cornelius’ Veterans Day commemoration will be held at the Cornelius Veteran’s Monument near Town Hall at 11am with keynote speaker Lonnie Long.
