Several Halloween events are on our Events Calendar this weekend, along with stargazing, theater, music, and other gatherings. This evening (Thursday) at 5:30, Green Drinks Lake Norman hears from Cornelius Town Commissioner Bruce Trimbur. Davidson College hosts the Celebration of the Mind at 6pm in Hance Auditorium, a free program featuring math activities including a mime performance by Davidson professor Tim Chartier and wife Tanya. COMING UP THIS WEEK

Author Wiley Cash will be in Davidson this Thursday.
Also Thursday evening Parodic Machines, a group exhibition in the Van Every Gallery of Davidson College, will have its opening reception starting at 6:30pm in the Davidson College Visual Arts Center. The 2013 ReadDavidson program will wrap up with a visit by Wiley Cash, author of this year’s town-wide read “A Land More Kind Than Home.” “An Evening With Wiley Cash” will be held at The Pines from 7-9pm.
This Friday, Davidson College’s theatre department opens its presentation of “Twelfth Night,” one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, at 8pm. The show will run October 25-27 and November 1-2. The Town of Davidson will host the annual downtown Davidson Halloween March as part of an afternoon and evening festival that will include a Concert on the Green featuring Rough Draft. Games begin on the Village Green at 4pm, and a the line up for the parade is at 5pm near Town Hall. People of all ages are invited to a night of stargazing at Fisher Farm Park. The Physics Department from Davidson College will have telescopes set up and ready to go by 8pm.
On Saturday, Mecklenburg County’s Organic Waste Production program will offer a composting class at 9am at the Farmers Market, and Halloween returns to Rural Hill with “Halloween Fun” for families at noon and the Amazing Maize Maze opening for a flashlight maze at 6pm. The Davidson Film Club presents a screening of “How I Ended This Summer,” a 2010 Russian film by director Alexsey Popogrebskiy, at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson at 7pm. Sunday, the Cornelius Historic Preservation will conduct a guided walking tour, South of Catawba with Ghostly Tales, on Sunday, October 27 at 5:00pm. They’ll leave from Cornelius Town Hall at 5. Auditions for the Davidson Community Players’ production of “A Miracle on 34th Street” will be held at 7pm in the Armour Street Theatre. They’ll hold auditions at the same time Monday evening.
