Public meetings, gospel quartet, Davidson homecoming

Numerous civic meetings are on This Week’s Calendar, including a special meeting of the Town of Davidson Board of Adjustment Monday at 7pm, where the board will hear a challenge to the Davidson Green School’s building plans. The week also includes election forums, music, civic club meetings, and high school and college sports. Kadi Fit in Cornelius hosts another open mic night Thursday. And this weekend is Davidson Homecoming. Read on for more selections and highlights from this week’s Events Calendar.

COMING UP THIS WEEK

Summit Coffee hosts its weekly Trivia Night Monday evening, starting at 7:30pm.

Monday evening, in addition to the Board of Adjustment meeting at Town Hall, the Huntersville Rotary Club will hold its Happy Hour meeting at Dressler’s in Birkdale Village from 5:30-6:30pm. The club meets every Monday. Summit Coffee is hosting Trivia Night on the back porch, starting at 7:30. Be there early to check in your team and get a table.

On Tuesday, the Cornelius Business Factory will host a discussion on cloud computing and small businesses and will feature Tim Campbell, president of Cornelius-based Apex Technology, Inc. The lunch meeting begins at 11:30 – RSVP information can be found on the Events Calendar. The Lake Norman Chamber and DavidsonNews.net will co-host a Davidson Town Board candidate forum from 7-9pm at Davidson Town Hall. Davidson Police Detective Steve Ingram will offer a program titled “How Does the Davidson Police Department Solve Crimes?” as a part of the town-wide reading program ReadDavidson. His presentation begins at 7pm in the Davidson Public Library.

Wednesday evening, the Davidson Rotary Club will meet at the Lake Norman YMCA at 5:30pm to hold their weekly meeting. The Triumphant Quartet, a southern gospel quartet nominated in 2009 for a Grammy for Best Southern, Country, of Bluegrass Album, will perform at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at 7pm. Heavens Reign, a southern gospel quartet from Mt. Zion UMC, will also sing during this program. Hough Men’s Soccer takes on West Charlotte at home at 6pm.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Bella Love and Kadi Fit will host Open Mic Night 2.0 at Kadi Fit Studios in Downtown Cornelius and the Residents Association of The Pines at Davidson will host an Election Forum for Davidson Town Board Candidates, both on Thursday evening. The Davidson College Chorale will host its fall concert titled “Shades of Light” Friday evening at 7:30pm, and the Davidson College Women’s Soccer Team will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a home match against Elon at 2pm. It’s also Homecoming Weekend at Davidson College.
