The Lake Norman region has another full calendar this weekend with candidate forums, live music, lectures, and high school sports on the agenda. Today at 11am, a political forum and BBQ lunch with candidates for Cornelius Town Board is scheduled at Cornelius Town Hall. Enjoy a free lunch and meeting Town Board candidates. Later this evening, MeckEd will host a community conversation about public schools at 6:30pm at CPCC’s Merancas Campus, featuring a discussion with state and local officials. Thursday evening, The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club will install its 2014 officers and celebrate the Kiwanis Chaper’s 20th anniversary at Harvey’s in Cornelius at 6pm. The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina chapter, will have its monthly Lupus support group meeting for the North Charlotte region from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at LiveWELL Carolinas! in Northlake Mall; this group meets the second Thursday of every month. Davidson College invites interested community members to attend an archaeology lecture delivered by Maria Liston, from the University of Waterloo’s Department of Anthropology, the Archaeological Institute of America’s Matson Lecturer titled “Death comes to the Theban Sacred Band: Skeletons from the Battle of Chairneia.” The lecture will take place at 7:30pm in Room 117 at the Belk Visual Arts Center on Davidson College’s campus.
“Searching for Sugar Man” will be screened this Saturday at the Cornelius Art Center
On Friday, downtown Cornelius welcomes back the Second Friday Art Crawl at the Chair Factory starting at 5pm. The evening offers a pedestrian friendly path of art, craft, culture and community. Area businesses will remain open through the evening and promote their products/services/cause in the setting of casual nightlife visitors, and artisans will be selling their wares. Davidson Day takes on Charlotte Country Day in a cross-county football rivalry Friday evening; kickoff is at 7pm at Davidson Day. St. Peter’s Choir School will present its 13th annual Cabaret Night Concert Friday evening at 7:30pm in the sanctuary of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Charlotte.
Saturday morning starts with the Trails for Tails 5K at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville. Registration opens at 7am, the 5k begins at 8am, and the one-mile dog walk begins at 9am. The Davidson Farmers Market begins at 8am and lasts until noon next to Town Hall with local farmers and vendors selling meats, produce, dairy products, baked goods, and other items. The market takes place every Saturday through November. Gethsemane Baptist Church of Lake Norman will host a Community Health Forum at 11am to help educate the community on the new options under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This event is free and open to the public. Saturday evening, Indies + Docs will be screening “Searching for Sugar Man” at 7pm at the Cornelius Arts Center. Sunday morning, The Memory Lane Museum will be open at 10am until 5pm to host a meet and greet with famous automobile and motorsports drivers. Several famous drivers like Bobby Allison, Rex White, Geoff Bodine, and Tiger Tom Pistone will be at the museum from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm to meet and greet with fans. The Lake Norman Jugglers Club will meet from 3-5pm in the Ada Jenkins Center gym. These informal weekly gatherings are free and open to everyone, through a partnership with Davidson Parks & Recreation. Juggling club members will supply instruction and use of juggling props for those who request it.
