Live music, running races, and community gatherings pack This Weekend’s calendar. Davidson College artist-in-residence Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum (born in Botswana, lives in South Africa) will give an artist lecture today (Thurday) at 6pm in Semans Lecture Hall in the Belk Visual Arts Center on her site-specific exhibition, “ab initio,” which opens on the 12th. The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, an edgy comedy currently open at the Warehouse PAC, continues this weekend with showtimes Thursday through Saturday. Also today, the Lake Norman Regional Stroke Support Group meets from 1:30-3:00pm at the South Iredell Senior Center and PFLAG Lake Norman will meet at Davidson College Presbyterian from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center will host an open house from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Open Mic Night, hosted by Bella Love, kicks off at Kadi Fit Studio at 8pm.
Friday evening, Hough and Lake Norman square off on the football field at Lake Norman. Hough vs. Lake Norman Football starts at 7:30pm.
On Saturday, the Andrew Lovedale 5k at the Davidson College cross-country trails opens on-site registration at 6:30am. The men’s race begins at 8am, and the women’s race begins at 8:30. The Kannapolis Rotary Club’s 3rd Annual Nutrithon 5k and 8k, with events beginning at 7:45am in downtown Kannapolis. Our Town’s Habitat will host the Biggest Cheese Antique Sale at the home of Mr. Jack Hart, featuring numerous items from his estate, from 9am – 2pm. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. The Carolina Raptor Center has a full day of events planned to celebrate International Vulture Awareness Day, with events beginning at 10am – join them for an exciting day on the Raptor Trail.
This Sunday, the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon begins at 8am at Ingersoll-Rand in Davidson. The event is part of the Cool Breeze Multi-Sport Challenge, a competition and fitness initiative among local companies. The triathlon is a fundraiser for Ada Jenkins Center. St. Alban’s Episcopal Church will host its Lunch on the Lawn starting at 11:30am, and Gethsemane Baptist will host its annual Homecoming and Revival at 3pm and throughout the week. Martha Cooke Jenkins, a life-long member of Mount Zion UMC, will give a historical lecture on the history of the church at 4pm at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius.
