North Mecklenburg Senior Center will host a variety of events over the next couple of weeks, including a program Aug. 20 called “What’s Under the Lake” with a Davidson College researcher who has been studying life before Lake Norman, and a National Senior Citizens Day celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Other special events and activities include a trivia/ pizza party Aug. 30.
The North Mecklenburg Senior Center is in the Solid Rock Church, 16601 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville. Here are details:
- WHAT’S UNDER THE LAKE, Tuesday, Aug. 20, 10am – Jan Blodgett, archivist at Davidson College, has launched a special research project exploring “Under Lake Norman.” She’ll talk about her research. - NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS DAY, Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1pm – All seniors in the area are invited to enjoy dessert and coffee at the center as they observe National Senior Citizens Day. Huntersville Mayor Jill Swain will be the guest speaker
- PIZZA/TRVIA PARTY, Friday, Aug. 30, noon – It’s pizza and trivia for all seniors on Friday August 30th, starting at noon. Trivia expert Dan Kiurski will be conducting a stimulating program right after lunch. Admission: simply bring a package of lunch or dessert sized plates.

The North Mecklenburg Senior Center, a United Way Agency, is one of four centers operated by Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Centers Inc., whose mission is to serve as a focal point to deliver a broad spectrum of services and activities for older adults throughout the Charlotte Mecklenburg community.
