The Lake Norman Region continues to be active this summer, with numerous activities and events on the Events Calendar this week. Tonight, the Huntersville “Happy Hour” Rotary Club will hold its regular meeting at Dressler’s in Birkdale Village from 5:30 – 6:30pm. The event features speakers, friends, and appetizers. Trivia Night at Summit Coffee also continues this week, and a new month means a reset scoreboard and a chance to be the trivial champion. Trivia starts at 7:30pm, be there early to register and get a table. Read on for more excerpts from this week’s Events Calendar.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
The towns of Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson are celebrating National Night Out this Tuesday. National Night Out is an annual crime prevention and community-building event, sponsored by the Cornelius Police Department, Cornelius PARC, the Davidson Police Department and North Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-citizen partnerships, and neighborhood cohesiveness.
The Cornelius celebration will take place in Smithville Park starting at 7pm. As a local business or organization, Cornelius PARC invites citizens to participate in National Night Out or supply a donation for the event. The Davidson festivities will take place in Roosevelt Wilson park starting at 5pm. The Brickhouse Tavern is providing hot dogs and hamburgers, Harris Teeter is supplying water, and Homewood Suites is also making contributions for the cook-out. Citizens are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
Huntersville’s National Night Out runs 6-8pm at Birkdale Village, and includes kids’ activities, a 6pm parade and competitions between police and firefighters.
Coming Up This Week
The Cornelius Youth Orchestras (CYO) is holding auditions for the 2013 – 2014 concert season. Auditions and parent informational sessions will be held on August 6, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, at Bailey Road Recreation Center (Bailey Middle School). YO offers a fun and exciting full orchestra program that will enhance your child’s musical education with challenging compositions. On Wednesday, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center will host a course offering training for the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider from 6pm to 10pm at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. The Davidson Career Transition Program, which meets twice a month at Davidson UMC, will meet from 10am-12pm. Grab a local, creative lunch at Lunch in the Lot this Wednesday at Oak Street Mill, where food trucks will serve up their fare from 11am – 2pm.
Also this Wednesday, the Cornelius Library is hosting a Learn, Connect, Play event that will include gaming on a Nintendo Wii. For kids ages 12-18 at the Cornelius Library from 2-2pm. Trivia Night at the Kilted Buffalo in Birkdale continues at 8pm – be sure to get there a little early to register your team.
Thursday, the Cornelius Outdoor Cinema Series continues with a screening of “The Avengers” at Kenton Place, starting at approximately 8:30pm. Bring a blanket, a chair, and enjoy a movie outdoors with the community.
