L’Académie du Roi Soleil performs at DCPC on July 30

L’Académie du Roi Soleil, an early music ensemble whose members are based on both sides of the Atlantic, will perform Tuesday, July 30, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. The 7:30pm concert will feature ensemble co-founder and soprano Margaret Carpenter, who was recently hired as assistant music director at the church.
Other members of the consort are co-founder Nicolas Haigh, on harpsichord and portatif; violinist David Wilson; flutist Rebecca Troxler; and cellist Barbara Krumdieck.
The concert will include Couperin’s “Concerts Royeaux: Second Concert,” “Ariane” by Courbois, Jacquet de la Guerre’s “Le Sommeil d’Ulisse,” and Lully’s “Trios pour le coucher du Roy.”
L’Académie du Roi Soleil is an early music consort hat plays music of the French Baroque and other genres. Its name pays homage to Louis XIV, the Sun King, an important source of patronage for the arts. The group is jointly based in York, UK, and Charlotte.
