The next boat-in film at Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius will be “Rise of the Guardians”, screening for landlubbers and boaters on Saturday night, July 20. Also Saturday night, the Davidson Film Club has the Uruguayan film “Gigante”.
BOAT IN TO “RISE OF THE GUARDIANS”
The 12th Annual Cornelius Outdoor Cinema Series continues this Saturday, July 20, with a screening of DreamWorks Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians” (PG) at Ramsey Creek Park, off Nantz Road, Cornelius. See a great movie on a blimp screen free. The movie begins at dusk, approximately 8:30pm, weather permitting.
The “Boat-In” movies at Ramsey Creek Park, hosted by Cornelius PARC, give spectators the opportunity to view the movies from land or from the lake. Boaters will be able to watch each movie from their boats and receive audio via boat radio or handheld radio. The designated radio channel will be better received if your boat antenna is above water or via use of a handheld radio. DAVIDSON FILM CLUB SCREENS ‘GIGANTE’
The Davidson Film Club will screen the Uruguayan film “Gigante” on Saturday, July 20. Doors open at 6:30, with the film at 7 at the Armour Street Theater, 307 Armour St. in Davidson.
This 2009 romantic comedy by Adrián Biniez is in Spanish with English subtitles and follows the story of Jara, a shy and lonely 35-year-old security guard at a supermarket on the outskirts of Montevideo. He works the night shift, monitoring the surveillance cameras of the entire building. One night Jara discovers Julia, a 25-year-old cleaning woman, through one of the cameras and is immediately attracted to her. Jara’s life becomes a series of routines and rituals around Julia, but eventually he finds himself at a crossroads and must decide whether to give up his obsession or confront it.

‘THE IRAN JOB’
The Cornelius Arts Center will kick off a new Indies + Docs film series on Saturday, July 27, with a screening and reception for “The Iran Job.” The film begins at 7pm at the arts center, 19725 Oak St., behind the police station in downtown Cornelius. Tickets: $7 for Cornelius residents, $8 for non-residents, available only in advance through the IndiesPlusDocs.com website [5].
“The Iran Job” follows American basketball player Kevin Sheppard as he accepts a job to play in one of the world’s most feared countries – Iran. He’s expecting the worst, but what he finds is a country brimming with generosity, acceptance, and sensuality. With a charismatic personality that charms everyone he meets, Kevin forms an unlikely friendship with three outspoken Iranian women who share with him their strong opinions. Kevin’s season in Iran eventually culminates in something much bigger than basketball: The uprising and subsequent suppression of Iran’s reformist Green Movement.
