This weekend, dodge the rain and dry out at one of the numerous community events in our region. Thursday evening, participate in WFAE’s Conversation Series. This week’s event is “Food’s Role in Our Lives” at the Levine Museum of the New South from 7-8:30pm. In Davidson, Summit Coffee hosts local musician Jackie Moseley and in Birkdale, The Corkscrew features musicians Wally & Dave. Both acts last from 8-11pm. This Friday, The Lake Norman Chamber presents a Power Lunch with Congressman Robert Pittenger at 11:45am at the River Run Country Club. The Cornelius Library presents another film in its “From Pages to Screen” series. This week’s film is “Holes,” and will be screened at 2pm. Downtown Cornelius plays host to another local artist spotlight with the inaugural Second Friday Art Crawl, presented by the Cornelius Cultural Arts Group. Concord Parks & Recreation hosts the annual Streetlight 5k and Frolic, which includes obstacle courses and relays for kids, other games and an outdoor concert. The event begins at 6pm on Union Street. Summit Coffee will have an art opening for local artist and Davidson student Kayli Rideout‘s latest show, from 6-8pm. Live music by Mike Strauss follows from 8-11pm.
On Saturday, the Davidson Community Players hold auditions for energetic and imaginative youth ages 12-18 for its annual Shakespeare Unplugged Workshop Production. Auditions will be held this Saturday from 10am-noon and July 19 from 4:30-6:30pm at Armour Street Theatre. Saturday evening, the Lake Norman Wine Cottage is hosting a wine tasting and 3-course meal from 6-9pm – bring a friend for an evening of fine wine and dining. Close out Saturday with great music and drinks as Carrburritos continues its Summer Music Series with the Jeff Sipe Trio. Admission is $6, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Ada Jenkins Center music education programs.
