Time to set sail, at Lake Norman Yacht Club Regatta

[2]Well, maybe not literally…but if you love the majestic sight of sailboats, as do I, you’ll want to be on or near the lake this weekend as the Lake Norman Yacht Club hosts its annual Independence Day Regatta. Complete with another round of fireworks set for Saturday night in the event you haven’t had enough. Or yours were rained out, which is entirely possible in this area lately.
Speaking of inclement weather, the threat remains, as does the realization that the water will likely be very choppy for this event, if it isn’t rained out altogether. Which begs the question, how talented must these sailors be to stay on course and race in these conditions? We had trouble just dropping anchor yesterday, the wind was that bad.
Boaters should do their part to make it as easy as possible for them and steer clear of the course. No unnecessary wakes, please. I speak from experience in that some lack common courtesy in this department. Much less the skill and wherewithal to operate a complex rigging system involving masts.
But it is truly a sight to behold. The color, the whimsy, it’s a magical thing of beauty. Get close, but not too close. Or watch from land. Just one more advantage to life around here. Round out your holiday weekend with a regatta at the lake. Hope you all had a wonderful fourth, ate lots of good food, and dodged a storm (or two!)
