Critically-acclaimed indie rock act Passion Pit will appear at Davidson College on Sunday, March 24.
The college’s Union Board Concerts Committee on Friday announced the concert, which will be held in the college’s Belk Arena. Doors open at 6pm, with opening acts (to be announced) at 7pm.
Passion Pit formed in 2007 in Cambridge, Mass., and has become popular on the indie rock scene. The group’s most recent album, “Gossamer,” which examines subjects including alcoholism and mental illness, has been generally well-received by critics and snagged an 8.4 out of 10 on popular music review site Pitchfork.com.
Passion Pit was chosen from among 45 artists after ranking No. 1 in a Fall 2012 survey of Davidson College students, a college spokesman said. The Concert Committee also considered affordability of ticket prices, average past ticket sales, and the popularity of the indie rock genre. The band earned more responses of “Yes, I’d buy a ticket to this show” in the student survey than any band in previous years.
The concert will be the first in Belk Arena since Maroon 5 in fall 2010.
Tickets will go on sale for Davidson students, faculty, and staff at 11am on Thursday, Feb. 7. The general public may purchase tickets starting at 10am on Friday, Feb. 15. Tickets are $20 for Davidson students, $25 for Davidson faculty and staff, and $30 to $35 for the general public, depending on seating.
