Davidson Community Players will conduct open auditions for its June 2012 production of the Tony award-winning musical “The Pajama Game” on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 3-4.
“The Pajama Game” is a story about a trade union dispute set against a background of factory machines, played by factory hands, office workers and shop stewards. It’s also one of the happiest, most romantic and richly comical musicals around. Memorable tunes include “Hernando’s Hideaway,” “Steam Heat,” “Hey There” and “I’m not at All in Love.” Auditions will be held both nights at 7pm, at Davidson Community Players’ Armour Street Theatre,307 Armour St., Davidson. Callbacks will be on Monday, Feb. 11, by invitation only. Actors should sign in by 8pm on Sunday or Monday — only one session necessary.
All auditioners should memorize 16 bars of a song that shows off their vocal range, and bring music in the proper key for the accompanist. A dance call will follow the vocal audition. Auditioners also should also bring a recent headshot if available, a list of theatrical experience, and a list of conflicts for the late April-June time frame
The production will be directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge, running June 20-29. Full rehearsals will begin in late April. While dancers are encouraged to audition, all those cast will have the opportunity to take free dance classes in the style of Bob Fosse from February through April to prepare for learning dance numbers. Emily Hunter and Felicia Davis are the choreographers for the show. For more information call artistic director Marla Brown 704-892-7953 or marla@davidsoncommunityplayers.org
‘CRIMES OF OMISSION’ AT WAREHOUSE
DC-2 Productions and the Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius will produce the psycho drama “Crimes of Omission” March 7-24 at the Warehouse PAC, 9216-A Westmoreland Road, Cornelius.
“Crimes of Omission” was written by Don Cook and will be directed by Divina Cook. The cast includes Lamar Wilson, Tom Ollis, and Jim Esposito.
The play blends some serious crime-solving with quirky humor, witty dialog, and a plot that takes more twists and turns than a kitten with a yarn-ball. It’s set in the office of a highly respected psychiatrist, who is conducting the pre-trial evaluation of a murder suspect. As the clinic’s chief of staff watches with growing concern, the session turns into a provocative game of cat-and-mouse with roles changing so rapidly it’s hard to tell who’s chasing whom. And why? By the final curtain, all three men have learned what “Crimes of Omission” really are, and how devastating their consequences can be.
Performances will be Thursdays to Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 4pm, March 7–24. Tickets: General Admission: $20, Seniors/Students/Groups: $15. Call the box office at 704-619-0429, or email tickets@warehousepac.com
