FARNDALE AVENUE … CHRISTMAS CAROL
Every year, Davidson Community Players stages a holiday production that offers a time out from the holiday rush and a few laughs – or more. This year’s offering, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 16 at Armour Street Theatre in Davidson, is – bear with this title – “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of ‘A Christmas Carol’,” by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr.
In a festive mood, the crazy ladies of Farndale mount an assault on the classics with their original stage version of the Dickens classic. They enthusiastically portray a dizzying array of characters, engineer some novel audience participation, and bravely contend with an intrusive public announcement system.
Performances Nov. 29 to Dec. 16, with shows Nov. 29-30, Dec. 1, 6-8, and 13-15, all at 8pm; Dec. 9 and 16 at 7pm; and Dec. 2, 9, 15 and 16 at 2pm. Tickets available at DavidsonCommunityPlayers.com.
RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER
Activate Community Through Theatre (ACT) will offer a series of performances around the area of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” an audience participation play for children 3–12 and children of all ages.
Directed by Wrenn Goodrum, this heart-warming holiday classic of a reindeer named Rudolph uses children in the audience to help the elves make toys, participate in reindeer games and even join Rudolph as he saves the day. Parents are welcome to take photos as their children get into the ACT onstage.
Performances for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer are Dec. 1 and Dec. 22 at 1 and 4pm at the Woodlawn School, 135 Woodlawn Loop in Mooresville; Dec. 8 at 2 and 4pm at the Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road in Charlotte; and Dec. 15 at 2 and 4pm at the Cannon Memorial YMCA, 5325 Langford Avenue in Concord.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children. For reservations, call: 704-707-6757. More information: activatecommunitythroughtheatre.com
BEYOND THE FRINGE AT WAREHOUSE
Warehouse Performing Arts Center off Westmoreland Road in Cornelius is producing “Good Evening From Beyond The Fringe” by Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, etal, Dec. 6-16. It’s a collection of the best and funniest sketches from two British 1960s classic revues that introduced America to Dudley Moore and Peter Cook and paved the way for Monty Python and other sketch comedy shows we’ve been enjoying ever since.
Favorites include the one-legged man auditioning for the role of Tarzan, a serious vicar whose Sunday sermon wanders aimlessly (and uproariously) through the Good Book, a touching reunion in an ICU where a father explains to his son how the young man’s mother’s false teeth destroyed an entire wing of the hospital, and in keeping with the holiday season, a Bethlehem shepherd recalls his conversation with the angel who came to him with tidings of great joy. Directed by Don Cook, featuring Jim Esposito, Barry Newkirk, Scott Stanton, and Dominic Weaver.
Performances are Thursdays to Saturdays, Dec. 6-8 and 13-15 at 8pm, Sundays Dec. 9 and 16 at 4pm.Ticket information: http://www.warehousepac.com/
The project is funding by the Arts & Science Council, the N.C. Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
