this week buttonOur calendar this week seems to have a little something for everyone: Outdoor music and movies, theater, professional softball, and public meetings as well as community gatherings for National Night Out on Tuesday. Cannon School drama students and alumni are staging “The Fantasticks” at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius this weekend. Cornelius PARC’s outdoor movie series shows “The Lorax” at Kenton Place on Wednesday. Moorsville’s “Live in the 115″ music series continues Friday night downtown, while Kannapolis’s summer concert series Saturday night features Bomshel with The Gal Friday Band, followed by Fireworks. Summit Coffee in Davidson has live music three nights. And The Carolina Diamonds women’s professional softball team has its final homestand of the seasons this weekend at Cannon Stadium. Grin Kids golf tourney, 10 a.m., Birkdale Golf Club, Huntersville – 9th annual Grin Kids Charity Weekend golf tournament. It’s a fund-raiser for Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids, which sends terminally ill kids to Disney World with parents and siblings.

Cornelius Town Board, 6 p.m., Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. – Town Board meets. Pre-meeting at 6 includes a presentation on the area’s victim advocate program from United Family Services. Kannapolis Rotary presentation, Noon, Rotary Hall, 211 West Avenue, Kannapolis – The Kannapolis Rotary Club will be awarded a check for $10,000 from the Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Co. The grant will be used to provide housing for graduate students and interns at the North Carolina Research Campus. Kannapolis Rotary Club set a five-year goal to raise at least $200,000 to purchase a home near the Kannapolis research facility, to be called the Rotary House.

Mooresville National Night Out, 5-9 p.m. Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 North Main St., Mooresville. – Join the Mooresville Police Department for the Annual National Night Out event. Mooresville’s crime prevention block party will be held on Main Street and will include games, face painting, give-a-ways, food, bounce houses, music & more. ‘The Lorax’ outdoor movie, 8:30 p.m., Kenton Place, 17115 Kenton Drive, Cornelius – Summer outdoor cinema series continues with the movie “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.” Free and open to the public.
