Food truck rally, Barnstock ’12, theater, Beach Bash

[1]Live music and great food will be served up Friday night at the first-ever food truck rally in the Lake Norman area, at Rural Hill in Huntersville. Order food and enjoy music by The Moonshine Racers and historic demonstrations, games, scenic hayrides, and more. Another big weekend event is Barnstock ’12, a two-day music festival showcasing local bands and benefiting Davidson Fire Department and other local causes. Other music this weekend: Kannapolis’ Summer Concert Series features The Tams Friday and several other bands on Saturday night. And Cornelius hosts the annual Beach Bash in the Park on Saturday. If you prefer theater, Davidson Community Players opens its production of Neil Simon’s play “Rumors” at Davidson College Duke Family Performance Hall.
Our Town Cinemas in Davidson has the Batman flick “Dark Knight Rises” along with “Moonrise Kingdom” and “Ice Age: Continental Drift.” See showtimes at right.
THURSDAY, JULY 26
Native American camp, 9 a.m.-noon, 1-4 p.m. Triple Play Farm, Davidson – Camp for kids based on the book, 50 Dangerous Things You Should Let Your Child Do. Includes fort building, throwing spears, climbing, fire building, stories, games and crafts. WFAE Public Conversations Series, 7-8:30 p.m. Mint Museum Uptown, 500 South Tryon St., Charlotte. – WFAE’s Public Conversations Series will address “Politics in the Street,” a look at the balancing act between freedom of speech and the right to assemble and the need to maintain safety and livability during the Democratic National Convention. In three years Barnstock has raised more than $12,000 for the Davidson Fire Department. Barnstock ’12 will also be raising funds for the Second Harvest Foodbank of Charlotte. Food Truck Rally, 5-9 p.m., Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville – The first-ever Food Truck Rally in the Lake Norman area boasts to date at least 13 Food Trucks for the event, including Wingzza, Smoke and Go, TCBY, Charlie’s, Tasty-Yo, Dan The Pig Man, Outdoor Feasts, Roaming Fork, Harvest Moon Grille, The Homegrown Crepe, Sahlen’s Grillin Wagon, Maki Taco, and I Scream 4 Ice Cream. There will be live music by The Moonshine Racers and children’s activities provided by Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics. Also, historical demonstrations, games, scenic hayrides, and more.
