Davidson Community Players’ production of “Crazy for You,” a Tony Award-winning Gershwin musical filled with familiar tunes, opens Thursday, June 21, and runs through Saturday, June 30, at Duke Family Performance Hall at Davidson College. Meanwhile, on a more intimate scale, Christian Hamilton’s new play “Garden Party: The Adventures of Adam & Eve,” will run June 28-July 5 at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius. ‘CRAZY FOR YOU’ IN DAVIDSON
George & Ira Gershwin’s “Crazy for You is filled with great music and lively dancing, and sprinkled with Ken Ludwig’s hilarious dialogue. It’s described as a high-energy musical comedy that includes mistaken identities, plot twists, dance numbers, and classic and familiar Gershwin music. Tunes include: “I Got Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Embraceable You” and “But Not for Me.”
The cast includes Kristian Andrewson as Bobby Child, Lexie Wolfe as Polly Baker, Karen Heroy as Mrs. Child, Daniel Breuer as Lank, Erin Corns as Irene, Dan Ryan as Eugene Fodor, Della Knowles as Patricia Fodor, Bettina Michaels as Tess, Kevin Roberge as Bela Zangler, and Roger Watson as Everette Baker. There’s also an extended cast of Cowboys, Showgirls, Townspeople, Colleagues, and Workers
The show opens this Thursday at 8 p.m. at Duke Family Performance Hall on the Davidson College campus. Shows continue Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m.; next Thursday to Saturday, June 28-30, at 8 p.m.; and Saturday, June 30 also at 2 p.m. The show is appropriate for all ages. ‘GARDEN PARTY’ AT THE WAREHOUSE
“Garden Party: The Adventures of Adam & Eve” is a new play Christian Hamilton, running June 28-July 5 at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius. Directed by Rachel Jeffreys, it’s a comic tapestry that weaves strands together from Mark Twain’s “Diaries of Adam and Eve,” George Bernard Shaw’s “Back to Methusaleh,” John Milton’s “Paradise Lost,” old nursery rhymes, medieval miracle plays and more.
Hear Adam and Eve read from their diaries, meet God, see Cain and Abel as babies – and try and figure out what those angels are doing. The show is appropriate for all ages and features actors Lou Dalessandro, Amy Wada, Jim Esposito, Alan England, Dervin Gilbert, Aby Pagan, and Brad Tarr.
