weekend calendar bug [2] “Car Craze,” a series of short plays celebrating our love affair with cars, gets cranked up this weekend at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius. If running is more your speed, Davidson ultra-marathoner Jeff McGonnell will be running around the Village Green for 24 hours to raise funds for Batten Disease research.  Join him for a two-hour shift  or enjoy live music at Summit Coffee in Davidson or lobsters at the LobsterFest in Mooresville. Concerts this weekend include jazz by the Lake Norman Big Band in Cornelius or reggae by The Dickens in Davidson. Or take in Preacher Stone and Darrell Harwood as part of the  Kannapolis Summer Concert Series or a Bob Dylan tribute at The Birdsnest in Davidson.

Shedding Light on Bullying, 6:30 p.m., Davidson United Methodist Church Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Davidson – “Linking Lake Norman: Shedding Light on Bullying and Suicide Prevention,” a community event welcoming anyone affected by bullying and suicide, including students, parents, youth pastors, school administrators, and any concerned community members. Davidson artist Felicia van Bork has exhibit openings the next two Fridays. She is among five artists in the show “With a Discerning Eye: Realism to Abstraction” at Waterworks Visual Arts Center [16] in Salisbury. An opening reception is Friday, 6-8 p.m., at the gallery, 123 E. Liberty St., Salisbury. Gallery talk at 5 p.m.

And an opening reception is planned Friday, June 8, 6-8 p.m., for “Collage: An Invitational Exhibition,” at Jerald Melberg Gallery, 625 S. Sharon Amity Road, in Charlotte.
