Election, I-77 meeting, music and Jetton Park Triathlon

this week bugTuesday’s primary election, public meetings about I-77 widening and the annual book sale at Davidson’s library branch are on the community calendar this week around the area. Mandolinist Michael Orlando plays Wednesday night at Flatiron Kitchen in Davidson, and there’s live music at least two nights this week at Summit Coffee. The Jetton Park Triathlon is scheduled Saturday morning at Jetton Park in Cornelius, and there’s a Run Wild 5K just down the street in Birkdale at the same time. MONDAY, MAY 7

Davidson College student art, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Smith Gallery, Belk Visual Arts Center, Main and Griffith streets – Davidson College invites the public to a student art exhibition through May 8. The annual juried exhibition by both art majors and non-majors showcases about 50 works produced on a range of mediums by 30 students. TUESDAY, MAY 8

Primary Election Day, polls open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Mecklenburg County – Citizens may vote in party primaries for races including president, governor of North Carolina and other state offices, 9th Congressional District, state Senate, district judges and Mecklenburg County Commission. The ballot also includes a proposed N.C. Constitutional amendment to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. Vote at your assigned precinct. Note to Huntersville voters: the Huntersville library voting station has been relocated to Huntersville United Methodist Church on Stumptown Road because of renovations at the library. Pancake Supper Mission Night, 5:45 p.m., Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Congregation House, Concord Road – Members of the church’s Nicaragua Mission Team will cook pancakes beginning at 5:45 p.m. At 6:30, six members of the Birmingham Mission Team will show slides and talk about their trip to Birmingham, Ala., in April. See slides of their work and some of the devastation that occurred in Birmingham when strong tornadoes tore through the area a year ago.
