Davidson-based musician Rusty Knox will be among the nominees vying for Singer-Songwriter of the Year honors at the 2012 Charlotte Music Awards/Songwriter Showcase on Saturday night, Feb 25, at NC Music Factory in Charlotte. In addition, The Rusty Knox Band also has been nominated for the region’s Americana/Bluegrass Band of the Year. They’ll perform April 12 at Puckett’s Farm Equipment in Charlotte. Meanwhile, Rusty and other local musicians are playing a series of benefit concerts this weekend at the Birdsnest in downtown Davidson to raise money for scholarships to the the venue’s summer music camps.
RUSTY KNOX UP FOR AWARDS
Mr. Knox is one of 15 individuals or groups performing at Saturday’s Songwriter Showcase. The winner will be crowned Singer/Songwriter of the Year. Besides Mr. Know, the 15 nominees include Jeff Luckadoo, Matthew Alexander, Sevin Becker, Matt Tucker, Sara Scott, MOsArt, Amy Broome, Marie Reid & Douglas Barnhill, Corey Hunt, Kristi Ormand, Jeff Gates, Sy Arden, Chuck Johnson “The Charlyhorse,” and Flesh & Stone.

Winners will get to perform at the Charlotte Music Awards Red Carpet Affair in December. They also receive a a one-year membership in Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the world’s largest not-for-profit songwriters trade association.
Meanwhile, Rusty’s Rusty Knox Band has been nominated for the Charlotte area’s Americana/Bluegrass Band of the Year. They’ll be performing and competing for honors in another showcase on April 12, 7 to 11 p.m. at Puckett’s Farm Equipment, 2740 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte. The Birdsnest in downtown Davidson is hosting three nights of local music this weekend in a fund-raiser to help less fortunate children attend Birdsnest Music camps this summer. For every $100 raised, a child will be able to attend a five-day music camp. Instructor time will be donated; the money raised will be used to fund instruments, music supplies and snacks.
