Organist Rowland offers a moveable feast of music Tue.

Popular local organist Michael Rowland will perform on two organs in two parts of Davidson College Presbyterian Church during the next Organ at Davidson concert on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Mr. Rowland, the church’s associate music director and an artist associate at Davidson College, will begin his recital on the mechanical action Ott organ in DCPC’s Lingle Chapel. Then he and his audience will move down the hall into the church sanctuary, where he’ll finish the program on the Wicks organ.
The concert begins at at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel, whose entrance faces North Main Street at Concord Road.
In the chapel, Mr. Rowland will play a toccata by Dietrich Buxtehude and J.S. Bach’s variations on the chorale “Sei gegrusset‖” (Thee I greet, Thy love I treasure). A quartet sings the chorale followed by variations written for organ alone.
On the sanctuary’s Wicks organ, he’ll continue the Bach, playing the remaining variations that require more elaborations for manuals and pedals. Moving to France, the program features three pieces by Cesar Franck written in 1878 for the inauguration of a large organ in the Festival Hall of the Palais du Trocadero in Paris.

A Salisbury resident, Michael Rowland is a graduate of Wake Forest University, Boston University and the Peabody Conservatory. In addition to his work with Davidson College and major role at DCPC, the featured performer is well known for his collaborative piano work and coaching. He is also a sought-after organ recitalist.

The next program—Bach Birthday Bash, on Tuesday, March 20—takes place at the same time and place (7:30 p. m. at DCPD). International concert organist Jonathan Dimmock performs on May 1.
