Davidson Community Players' Connie Company offers performances and workshops for kids.

Davidson Community Players’ Connie Company children’s theater will offer a variety of performance and workshop opportunities for kids in 2012. Auditions begin this week for the youth production of “A Bear Called Paddington.” Auditions are Thursday, Jan. 5, and Saturday, Jan. 7 for the show, which is to be performed April 20-29.

“A Bear Called Paddington” is based on the heart-warming and much beloved stories of the little brown bear found at Paddington Station. Youth ages 8-18 are welcome.

The company also offers audition-based workshops and camps to complement the production.

Here are details on the upcoming auditions:

Paddington and Workshop Auditions: January 5, 2012: 6:30pm – 8:00pm and January 7, 2012: 10:00am -12:00 Noon and 1:00pm – 3:00pm. “A Bear Called Paddington” is the second Connie Company youth production of the season. Paddington is a full-length production featuring numerous roles for boys and girls of all ages. Alternatively, auditionees will be considered for an acting ensemble workshop which offers opportunities for young artists to study the craft of acting, learn about play production, and experience the satisfaction of performing for the public. Each ensemble will perform on a stage with professional lighting and a live audience. Ensembles will perform either Alice in Wonderland or Telling Wilde Tales. Group audition, no preparation necessary. Choose only one session to attend; plan to stay for the entire time.  Dress comfortably and be prepared to move. (No skirts please.)

Main Stage Production: The Adventures of a Bear Called Paddington (January 26 – April 29, Ages 8-18). Requires traditional audition January. No fee.
Alice in Wonderland (Jan. 26 – April 24, Ages 8-11) Attend the January audition to to be considered.  Auditions are used for placement. $225
Telling Wilde Tales (Feb. 21 – May 19, Ages 12-18) Attend the January audition to be considered. Auditions are used for placement. $225

The January auditions will also be used to place youth in the summer Connie Company productions. These are summer programs that allow more experienced actors to further develop their skills in an intensive week-long class concluding with a production.

Junior Troupe (July 16 – 22, Ages 10-12) Come to January audition to enroll.  Auditions are used for placement. $95
Teen Troupe (July 9 – 22, Ages 13-18) Come to January audition to enroll.  Auditions are used for placement. . $125
