‘Teaching Talents’ opens; CAP seeks board members

[1]CORNELIUS – The Cornelius Arts Center in the Oak Street Mill on Wednesday held an opening reception for its “Teaching Talents” exhibit, featuring art made by the instructors and staff of the Community Arts Project. About 50 people turned out to get a first look at the paintings, drawings, prints, jewelry, mixed media pieces, wood pieces and ceramics.
Most art is for sale and 30 percent of the proceeds go to the non-profit Community Arts Project. The show will be up through Jan. 13.
Cornelius Arts Center [2]isbehind the police station in the Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St., Cornelius. Hours: Mondays to Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon. 704-896-8823.

CAP SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS
The Community Arts Project seeks volunteers interested in serving on the nonprofit’s Board of Directors.
The board engages in long-term planning and oversees operations at CAP to ensure that its mission and objectives within the community are being carried out.
CAP seeks to grow its board in preparation for future developments, and would like to add new members with a variety of skills in Finance, Real Estate, Law, Marketing and other areas of business and development.

NEW OIL PAINTING CLASSES
Beginning in January, local artist Gordon C. James will teach oil painting classes at the Cornelius Arts Center.
Classes include:
- Portraits in Oil, on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An intermediate to advanced class that will break down the process of painting a portrait into fun, easy to understand steps.
- Oil Painting, on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Appropriate for painters of all levels, the class will help students create successful oil paintings. Students will work on projects determined by their individual interests and abilities.
