Run for Green, meetings, Concert on the Green

On Saturday, the Davidson Lands Conservancy hosts the Green Day festival and its annual the Run for Green half-marathon, 10K and 5K runs. Know Your Farms has its annual farm tour this weekend. The Lake Norman Beer Festival is Saturday at Galway Hooker in Cornelius, and Mooresville’s HealthReach Community Clinic raises money Saturday at the Blues & Burritos benefit.

Neil White, author of the memoir “In the Sanctuary of Outcasts,” will give a reading Tuesday morning at Davidson College, while MIT’s Ethan Zuckerman lectures Tuesday night at the college on “Does the Internet Change the Way We Connect?” The Lake Norman Marine Commission and Cornelius Planning Board both meet Monday, the Davidson Town Board meets Tuesday night, and the Lake Norman Transportation Commission convenes Wednesday night in Mooresville.

Mama’s Pizza Express will donate 10 percent of sales Monday to the bands at Hough High and Bailey Middle band. Rescues and Runaways – a fashion show and pet adoption festival – is Tuesday at Maurices in Mooresville. McTeacher Night, which benefits Cornelius Elementary School, will be held at the McDonald’s in Cornelius on Tuesday evening. Also Friday, the Brewer’s Ball to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be held at the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.

Matt Merrell will talk about the Davidson Community Players at a meeting of Davidson Senior Scholars on Wednesday afternoon at the Armour Street theater.

Wanna catch a little music? Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson will host area performers evenings from Wednesday through Saturday, Davidson College’s Tyler-Tallman Hall will host classical guitarist John C. Akers Friday afternoon, the Steep Canyon Rangers will perform at Davidson College on Friday night, and the Davidson Symphony and Jazz Ensemble plays the final installment in the Concert on the Green series at the Davidson Village Green Sunday evening.

The Davidson Community Players will hold its final performances of The Guys, Anne Nelson’s story about healing in N.Y.C. after 9/11, on Thursday through Saturday, with a portion going to support Davidson Volunteer Fire Department training.

And for those more athletically inclined, the WalMart Bass Fishing League will hold its final North Carolina division tournament Saturday and Sunday on Salisbury’s High Rock Lake, the Greater Charlotte Heart Walk will be Saturday morning in Charlotte, the Run for Green half-marathon, 10- and five-kilometer runs will be held in Davidson Saturday, and the annual Wake the Lake wakeboarding tournament is in Mooresville.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget about the Amazing Maize Maze, which continues Friday through Sunday at the Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville.
