Cast Iron Filter’s Dustin Edge plays Summit Thurs.

Dustin Edge, the former front man for Davidson-based touring band Cast Iron Filter, will reunite with some of his former band mates for a free concert Thursday night at Summit Coffee on Main Street.
He’ll be joined by other former Cast Iron Filter members Mike Orlando (mandolin), Mason Bissett (bass guitar), and Tim Helfrich (drums). The show begins at 8 p.m. at Summit, 128 S. Main St.
Cast Iron Filter was formed in 1999 by a group of students at Davidson College. They built a strong regional following and toured nationally until 2005. They created a unique sound, mixing elements of rock-and-roll with a strong nod to the bluegrass tradition. The band independently released four records and sold more than 50,000 copies: “Paradise in Palestine (1999), “Further Down the Line (2000), “This Ugly Town” (2002), “Live from the Highway” (2003), and “Falls of Rough” (2005).
Since the band dissolved, Edge has been recording and performing solo. He has two solo albums out (2008’s “Forest Through The Trees” and 2010’s “Calm”), and he has spent time living in Prague, New York City, and Boulder, Colo. Read more about him at dustinedge.com [1].

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2, 8-11 p.m., Alexis V.O. – Davidson College student Alexis Valauri-Orton will be headlining an evening with Davidson student performers.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 3, 8-11 p.m., Steve Simpson and Angelo Melendez – Two regional songwriters will split the bill, both performing original songs characterized by a mix of folk and blues.
