Summit Coffee hosts its August Songwriters Showcase on Thursday, featuring Billy Jones, Lindy Dobbins, Rob McHale and Mike Alicke. Public radio station WFAE-FM in Charlotte hosts an open house Friday to mark its weekend calendar bug30th anniversary. Cornelius Presbyterian Church’s Bluegrass and BBQ Festival and Cornelius’s 70s Night in the Park are both on Saturday. The weekend comes to a close with a Concert on the Green with the Rusty Knox Band.

No Power Concert, 9 p.m., The Birdsnest, 102 B S. Main St., Davidson – Billy Jones and Mason Bissett will perform another “no power concert” – no power as in using no electricity. Seating 10-15 mins. before the show. Tickets are $10 in advance, at the Birdsnest or by calling 704-990-6378. Says Billy Jones: “We don’t need electricity to make great music and create a great experience. 100% of the money generated by these shows will fund projects to make Davidson a more sustainable community.” The first project is to take 16 streetlights on Knox Court off the grid [19] by converting them to LED bulbs and solar power.
