It’s going to be a busy weekend, full of fun events. Davidson Day School is welcoming top Maya archeologists and scholars today (Thursday) for the Maya at the Lago Conference that continues over the weekend. The Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Games comes back to Rural Hill for it’s 18th year and Festival in the Park presents the first annual Kings Drive Art Walk. There are three events focused on the environment this weekend: Charlotte Clean and Green Festival at CPCC, Viva Verde Earth Fest in Kannapolis and Wild Over Lake Norman at Duke Energy’s McGuire Nuclear Station. The U.S. National Whitewater Center is hosting musical guests, and there’s a rodeo at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. On Saturday, Cornelius PARC hosts an egg hunt and Hop into Spring fest at Bailey Road Park.

This weekend’s musical lineup at Summit Coffee in Davidson includes the local favorite Rusty Knox Band on Thursday night, J.D. Wilson Friday, and a big night Saturday: Nick Evans from 8-9 p.m., followed by the house band, Billy Jones & The Pocket with special guests Mike Orlando and Rusty Knox.

Maya at the Lago Conference, 5:30 p.m., Davidson Day School, 750 Jetton St., Davidson – Davidson Day School will host the inaugural annual Maya at the Lago Conference, a gathering of more than 20 of the nation’s top Maya archeologists and scholars. In addition to the traditional educational opportunities, participants can attend social events such as a Contemporary Maya Feast that will help fund Davidson Day student research this summer at the Belize campus extension.
