Davidson College invites the public to view artwork by senior student art majors through April 20 in the Smith Gallery of the Belk Visual Arts Center. Wilson will present a concert titled “Ring the Banjo: From Africa to Appalachia” beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Alvarez College Union Smith 900 Room. Wilson’s Appalachian banjo performance marries musical virtuosity with cultural context. Wilson plays banjo music from various eras and cultures in the instrument’s history, tracing its sound from the African grasslands to Southern plantations to the mountains of eastern Kentucky to today. Kreuger, professor of international economics at the School for Advanced International Studies atJohns Hopkins University. Kreuger was the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2006, and was Vice President of Economics and Research at the World Bank from 1982 to 1986. She currently serves as a senior fellow at the Center for International Development and as the Ritch Emeritus Professor of Sciences and Humanities in the economics department at Stanford University. Davidson College invites the public to a NASCAR evening with Humpy Wheeler, former president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway, on Friday, April 29. Wheeler, one of the foremost promoters of NASCAR auto racing, will speak about “Racing, Bootlegging, Civil Rights, Hollywood and Wall Street.” He is currently chair of the Wheeler Company, a management consulting firm focusing on general business, professional sports, and motorsports. In 2010 Wheeler published a memoir titled Growing Up NASCAR: Racing’s Most Outrageous Promoter Tells All. The event at Davidson will include a traditional southern dinner and book signing.
