Theater, fundraisers, and theology; also Bella Love

davidson weekend calendarTheology on Tap begins at Summit Coffee as a regular meeting to discuss theology on Thursdays. The Davidson public library has storytimes and Lunch & a Movie on Friday. On Saturday, there’s a festival to celebrate the launch of Bella Love Charlotte, a non-profit organization supporting multicultural music and arts at the Palace in Cornelius.

In theater news, the play “Frozen” has been extended to this weekend and will have performances Thursday through Saturday. It joins “Kokoro” that plays Thursday through Sunday. There is also a screening of “Girl with a Pearl Earring”on Monday as part of the series of events in advance of the play “Masterpiece” that comes to the Armour Street Theatre February 24.

Film: “Dance the Devil Back to Hell,” 6 p.m., Hance Auditorium, Chambers Building, Davidson College – The film concerns a group of dedicated women who brought peace to Liberia after 25 years of major civil wars. Following the screening, members of Smile Liberia International, a Charlotte-based non-profit that provides children in post-war Liberia with access to education, will be available for questions. Davidson College Symphony Concert, 7:30 p.m., Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College – A performance by the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra. Free, but donations for the evening’s cause will be appreciated. For information call 704-894-2848.

Theater: Kokoro (True Heart), 7:30 p.m., Barber Theater, Cunningham Theater Center, Davidson College – As part of the Second Stage Series, the Davidson theater department presents Kokoro (True Heart) by Velina Hasu Houston. The story deals with the clash of Eastern and Western cultures as a grieving Japanese mother faces the U.S. legal system. The show runs from February 16 to 20, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Theater: Frozen, 8 p.m., The Warehouse, 9216-A Westmoreland Rd., Cornelius – The Warehouse presents Byrony Lavery’s play about the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl. Directed by Divina Cook and starring John Cunningham, Anne Lambert and Annette Saunders. SATURDAY, FEB. 19

Drop-In Art, 10 a.m.-noon, Cornelius Arts Center, 19725 Oak St., Cornelius – Parents, drop in with your children to work at various art stations throughout the studio. Live Love 2011, noon-11:30 p.m., The Palace, 8325 Copely Dr., Cornelius – Bella Love Charlotte, a non-profit organization supporting multicultural music and arts, is launching its organization with an all-day festival that will feature a diverse program of live music, business and art exhibitions, food, children’s activities and dance performances. Festival proceeds will benefit Camp Luck, a local camp for children with heart disease.
