College Greeks to host 5th annual Step Show Feb. 5

[1]African-American Greek organizations at Davidson College will host their 5th annual Apocalypse Greek Step Show, “Revelation of the Divine,” on Saturday, Feb. 5. Step teams from Davidson and other universities – from John C. Smith to N.C. State to Hampton – will compete in the event, to be hosted BET “ComicView” comedian Benji Brown.
The show begins at 8 p.m. at Duke Family Performance Hall in the Davidson College Alvarez College Union.
General admission tickets are $8 in advance, and $10 on the day of the show. They are available by calling 704-894-2135 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, or online at www.davidson.edu/tickets [2].
For the first time, this year’s show is expected to attract step teams from all nine of the historically black “Divine Nine” National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Greek fraternities and sororities. The fraternities are Alpha Phi Alpha Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Inc., Omega Psi Phi Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Inc. The sororities are Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, and Sigma Gamma Rho.
Three of the “Divine Nine” organizations have chapters on the Davidson campus. They are the Tau Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the Pi Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, and the Sigma Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Each of the Davidson organizations will perform in the show.
The other teams expected to compete are the Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi from Johnson C. Smith University, the Nu Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma from Winthrop University, the Beta Chapter of Iota Phi Theta from Hampton University, the Mu Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta from North Carolina State University, the Lambda Mu Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta from East Carolina University, and the Rho Gamma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho from Charleston Southern University.
The winning fraternity and winning sorority at the Davidson event will each earn a $1,000 prize. All proceeds from the sale of tickets to the show will benefit the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center and the Ada Jenkins Community Center.
