Updated Sunday, Jan. 9
The Jan. 11 Organ at Davidson concert by Thomas Warburton, emeritus professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, was postponed because of winter weather. The concerrt has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Warburton will play music from Hindemith, Mendelssohn, Messiaen, Schumann and Sowerby. Warburton also will play a piece by Sowerby, as a tribute to Robert Noehren, former Davidson College professor and Davidson College Presbyterian Church organist whom Mr. Warburton knew from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Warburton started playing the organ in his teens, going on to study at the University of Virginia. He received his Master of Music at the University of Michigan and has published works on topics such as organ music in the German Renaissance and contemporary American music. He has held positions as organist or organist and choir director in Michigan, Charlottesville and Richmond, Va., and Durham, N.C.
The performance is free, but donations toward future Organ at Davidson recitals are encouraged. It will take place in the sanctuary of Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Main Street and Concord Road. A reception to meet the artist will follow the recital.
LOOKING AHEAD: MICHAEL ROWLAND
The next organist in the Organ at Davidson series will be Michael Rowland, Artist Associate at Davidson College and DCPC’s Associate Director of Music. He plays Feb. 8 at the church. There is a full schedule on the music page of www.dcpc.org.
