‘Over the Tabletop’ aids HAMMERS; CSD raffle

Starr Miller Interior Design won last year's "Over The Tabletop" designer showcase. More than 25 designers will be competing at this year's event, on Nov. 3.
Davidson Housing Coalition
[1]On Wednesday, Nov. 3, the North Mecklenburg Women’s Club is hosting its 2nd annual Over the Tabletop, a designer showcase at River Run Country Club featuring holiday “tablescapes” created by local interior designers, shops, and florists. Proceeds benefit Davidson Housing Coalition’s HAMMERS home-repair program. Also, Community School of Davidson is conducting a fund-raising drawing with ticket sales through Nov. 5. Details on those and other coming fund-raisers below.
OVER THE TABLETOP
Guests are invited to come view designs, spark decorating and gift ideas, and enjoy an afternoon and/or evening in the community.
The evening event (6:30-8:30 p.m.) includes silent and live auctions, appetizers, and a cash bar, and many of the items and designs will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Davidson Housing Coalition’s “HAMMERS” home repair program.
Afternoon ($10 minimum donation, noon-3:30 p.m.) and evening ($25 minimum donation, 6:30-8:30 p.m.) tickets are available; the evening ticket provides access to both the daytime and nighttime portion of the events.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL RAFFLE
Community School of Davidson [3] is holding a raffle to coincide with its biennial auction. Friends and neighbors are welcome to buy a chance to win one of three prizes. Chances for an Apple iPad (valued at $499) are $10 each, chances for a Supercar Sensation Package Autocross race on 11/20/10 (valued at $500) are $25, and chances for an Apple MacBook (valued at $999) are $25 a ticket. Tickets are available at the school, 565 Griffith St., until Nov. 5.
HOUGH HIGH BAND SELLING FRUIT
The Hough High School Band is holding a fruit sale now through Nov. 9 to raise money to purchase many of the items the program needs. The band is in need of support and is also accepting donations in kind, said Karen Raboin, vice president of the Band Boosters.
The band is selling 20- and 40-pound cases of oranges, grapefruits, tangelos and mixed cases of oranges and grapefruits. Prices range from $22 to $35 per case. Delivery is anticipated between the end of November and the beginning of December.

GIRL SCOUTS BRING IN 8 TONS OF FOOD
About 550 Girl Scouts in Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville collected about 8 tons of food in a door-to-door effort on Saturday, Oct. 9. The canned goods were donated to the Loaves & Fishes food pantry at Ada Jenkins Center and Huntersville United Methodist Church.
THINK PINK DOG SHOW
Time to dress up your dog for Halloween. The 2nd annual Think Pink Dog Show & Halloween Party is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Village Green in Davidson.
The event will include the “Mutt Strutt” doggie parade, prizes for best costume and best family – families and their pets in costume. Registration $10. Vendor booths will also be on site with related information and trick-or-treat for kids and dogs.
The event is organized by two local girls, Ally Miller, 11, and Christianna Brueggeman, 12, and their friends. It’s being hosted by NHRA driver Doug Herbert. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

LIBRARY FUND-RAISER CONTINUES
The official end of the Davidson’s Library Task Force’s fund-raising campaign has passed, but efforts are continuing in hopes of reaching the $175,000 goal. Fund-raising co-chair Kim Fleming says the task force has raised $155,000 so far.
Local officials pledged to raise the money this summer to help Charlotte Mecklenburg Library plug a budget gap and keep open the Davidson library and other branches for another year.
The campaign is selling bricks – engraved with donors’ messages – at $100 or $500 each. More information is at savedavidsonlibrary.org [6]. WOMEN BUILD: TASTES OF HABITAT
Our Towns Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build volunteers host their annual “Tastes of Habitat” fund-raiser on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Charles Mack Citizens Center on Main Street in Mooresville. They’ll have food, music, a raffle and a silent auction. Mt. Zion Methodist Church is helping to sponsor the event. Tickets are $35 each or $250 per table. ICE CREAM BENEFIT NIGHT
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream on Main Street in Davidson will host a benefit scooping night Thursday, Nov. 4, from 6-8 p.m., with celebrity scooper Georgia Krueger, executive director of Ada Jenkins Center [9] in Davidson.
