"Love Inside Many Red Bubbles" by Kat Knutsen.
My family has headed up to Mooresville the last few Friday nights to have sushi at JJ Wasabi’s. It’s a loud, joyous place and is always packed with people. Although the food is delicious there, my husband, who can’t take a crowd for very long, is happy to make the escape and follow me over to ArtWorks On Main, just a few doors down.
ArtWorks on Main is many things. Its generous reception area is a nice sized gallery. A small art supply store is inside a “front office.” And my favorite part is a generous back area that has been split up “stable-style.” These stables are 24-7 access rental studios. In the center of the stables is an area set aside for classes. Finally, if you go way to the back there is a pottery studio, too!
If you have an art bug, as I do, this is the place to hang out. Need framing? They do it there, too. When I look at their list of classes offered both for adults and children, I get the feeling like I should just pick up a charcoal pencil, grab a sketch pad and get to work. In my mind, I have the time and talent for this. In reality, I have neither. But hanging out here, seeing a show, sipping some wine and having an hors d’oeuvre or two makes me feel like there is no place I’d rather be.
This Friday, Oct. 8, from 6-9 p.m. there’s an opening for a great show. Stop by as they celebrate Octoberfest. (This means beer, not wine, bratwurst, not brie). Kat Knutsen and Paul Keysar will be exhibiting their work.
Kat’s work is highly graphic and narrative. She began as a model at ArtWorks and then moved onto Asheville as an art student. This is a gal to watch. Paul is an award-winning plein air artist and an instructor at ArtWorks. I saw them setting up the show this week. It’s going to be great. Hope to see you all there!
Art Around Town,” by Lisa Jewel, appears Fridays on DavidsonNews.net’s Guide page. Lisa is keeping a sort of “visual journal” of interesting objects she finds in the area. Some are items for sale at local galleries, others prized possessions in our homes. Have an object to share? Email Lisa, lskjewel@aol.com. See her previous columns in the Art Around Town category
