17 YEARS HERE
When it started in 1994, the Carolina Renaissance Festival had just six acres of village attractions. Now, the event has grown to one of the largest renaissance-themed events in the country, and one of the largest attractions in the Carolinas.

Twig the Fairy
Days at the festival are filled with an abundance of attractions appropriate for all ages, including 11 stages, each packed with a mix of continuous music, dance, comedy shows, and circus entertainments. There’s everything from sword swallowing to one-of-a-kind old world musical instruments.
Some performances aren’t confined to the stage – they take place right in front of you on the streets of Fairhaven Village by a costumed cast of 300 medieval commoners, knights, and royals celebrating a 16th-century day of play. Part of the Renaissance experience is meeting and interacting with the colorful characters roaming the village, creating an interactive street theater.
Exhibits and attractions include a birds of prey exhibition, jousting, people-powered swinging rides and games of skill for adults and children. There’s a Dragon Climbing Tower, Archery Range, and a Maze, the Pirate’s Assault Catapult, the Petting Farm, and Camel and Elephant Rides. Shops along the village streets offer everything from jewelry and clothing to pottery and glass blown ornaments.
