There’s so much going on this weekend in and around Davidson that it could present some tough choices – or tire you out. Summit Coffee hosts a songwriters night Thursday night. On Saturday morning, we have the weekly Davidson Farmer’s Market as well as the Davidson Lands Conservancy’s Run for Green road races and Green Day Festival, on the Village Green. Know Your Farms presents its second annual tour of area farms both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, the Music @ St. Alban’s series kicks off with the fifth annual “BachFest,” while Mt. Zion United Methodist Church starts its 2010-11 concert series with a performance by the Vianello Trio. Also Sunday, it’s the final 2010 Concert on the Green, with the Davidson College Symphony and Jazz Ensemble.
Details on those and other events this weekend are below, or on our clickable day-by-day calendar at right.
RUN FOR GREEN ENTRIES OPEN
Entries for Saturday’s Run for Green half-marathon, 5K and 10K races are still open. The event begins at 8 a.m. from the Davidson Village Green, Concord Road and Main Street. Proceeds will benefit the Davidson Lands Conservancy. Registration is open online at davidsonlands.org [1] The field of this weekend’s races will include about 90 runners from Davidson’s Ingersoll Rand. The company has sponsored its employees’ entry fees for the event, as part of its efforts to promote fitness. Read more on our Health & Fitness page [2].
‘THE TRIAL’ EXTENDED AT OUR TOWN CINEMAS
Our Town Cinemas, in Sadler Square, has added shows and extended the premiere run of the local film “The Trial” through Sept. 23. The film drew big crowds during its opening last weekend.
“The local support for The Trial has been awesome,” said Charlotte author and co-producer Robert Whitlow. The exclusive run at Our Town Cinemas now will continue through 23 on two screens with at least seven show times daily, eight on the weekends.
Read more about “The Trial,” including an interview with Huntersville filmmaker Gary Wheeler, in our Sept. 8 article, “Local film ‘The Trial’ premieres here this weekend.” [3]
Our Town Cinemas is also bringing back a variety of classic films. Beginning Friday, it’s Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest,” starring Cary Grant. He’s a hapless New York advertising executive who is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies. They pursue him across the country while he looks for a way to survive. Coming next week, Our Town Cinemas brings back “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
Showtimes and more information about Our Town Cinemas are available on this page, at right.
