Davidson College Freshman Orientation continues this weekend with daily events, including Friday’s “Farewell Lunch” for parents and Friday night’s Freshman Olympics. And look for those frosh walking through town Saturday morning during the annual “Service Walk.” Davidson men’s and women’s soccer kick off their seasons this weekend with home games: The men host N.C. State in an exhibition game on Saturday, and the women will face Wilmington on Sunday.
Local bluegrass combo Davidson Express plays Saturday morning at the Cornelius Presbyterian Church’s Bluegrass Saturdays series. And the lineup of live music at Summit Coffee on Main Street this weekend begins tonight with Summit Songwriters in the Round. Performers will be Eric Scott Guthrie, formerly of the New Grass touring band The New Familiars; Sara Scott, who currently plays in the Charlotte area; and Rob McHale. Mr. McHale, an award winning songwriter and local performer, is host for the event.
Our Town Cinemas opens “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” based on the second book in the author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium Trilogy.” The movie follows computer hacker Lisbeth and journalist Mikael as they investigate a sex-trafficking ring. When Lizbeth is accused of murder, she goes on the run, while Mikael tries to clear her name.
Also this weekend, Cannon School will host its first ever home football game on Friday versus North Raleigh.
