Auditions are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 10, for the Davidson College Theater Department’s October production of “Pride & Prejudice.” Meanwhile, auditions are also approaching later this month for teen actors interested in joining the casts of two Davidson Community Players’ shows: “Once on This Island” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The Davidson College Theatre Department is holding community auditions Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for its fall mainstage production of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”

The production seeks actors for men’s and women’s roles aged 40 and older. The production is directed by Ann Marie Costa.

Performance dates are Oct. 27-31 in the Duke Family Performance Hall. Rehearsals begin Sept. 6.

PLAYERS SEEK TEENS FOR 2 PLAYS

Davidson Community Player’s Connie Company announces auditions for young actors in grades six through 12 for the musical “Once on This Island” and Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Auditions for “Once on This Island” will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22, at 2 pm and Monday, Aug. 23, at 7 pm. Auditions for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 2pm and Monday Aug. 23 at 7 pm.

All auditions will be held at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street in Davidson.

“Once on This Island” is a highly original Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid.” The original production garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.  In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.

The production will begin rehearsals the week of September 20 and will open November 12 at the Armour Street Theatre. Once On This Island will be directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge, with musical direction by Ryan Deal.

Auditions for Once on This Island will be held at 2pm on Aug. 22 and 7pm on Aug. 23. Students should arrive at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, in Davidson no later than 3pm on the 22nd and 8pm on the 23rd and should prepare a song that shows off their voice. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes and be prepared to move. Please bring a resume or list of theatre experience, and a recent picture as well as list of conflicts for the September to November time frame.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is centered around the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest. What happens, though, when a group of teens decide to make a YouTube video of the Shakespearean classic? You get Shakespeare Unplugged! The Connie Company’s “unplugged” version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be developed out of an intensive Shakespeare Workshop under the direction of Wrenn Goodrum.

Actors will meet three days a week from Aug. 30 thru Oct. 21 and will explore the language and world of Shakespeare in a modern day version of Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy using music, song, dance and multi-media. The production will open on October 22. Fee for the workshop will be $100. Scholarships are available.

Auditions for A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2-4pm or Monday, August 23, 7-9pm at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, Davidson. The production will provide opportunities for a diverse group of teens, no experience necessary. Interested actors should attend either session, arrive at the start time and plan to stay for the entire group audition. Please bring a resume or list of theatre experience, a recent picture and list of conflicts for the August 30-October 24 time period. No other preparation required.
