‘Noises Off’ opens, Kellin Watson at Summit & more

Summit Coffee hosts a special concert Friday night featuring Asheville singer-songwriter Kellin Watson, with Michael Bellar and the As-Is Ensemble. This weekend, two mid-summer theatrical productions open in the area: Davidson Community Players’ “Noises Off” and Warehouse Performing Arts Center’s “Fast Trip to Omaha.” Saturday morning brings another Davidson Farmer’s Market, including the first Salsa Showdown where customers can help pick the best recipe in town. On Saturday night, there’s an art opening for Lake Norman Art League’s photography show, and a Jazz in the Park concert at Bailey Road Park in Cornelius, followed by fireworks.

At Our Town Cinemas in Davidson, Thursday is the final night for “Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Friday night brings an opening for Angelina Jolie’s latest film, “Salt,” about a CIA officer whose loyalty is tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. The theater, off Griffith Street in Sadler Square, also has “Inception,” “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and “Despicable Me.” (See showtimes at right.)

THEATER OPENINGS THIS WEEK

Theater: Noises Off, Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College campus – The Davidson Community Players will perform the comedy ‘Noises Off’ beginning on Thursday, July 22. The performance includes mature themes and is recommended for ages 14 and up. Performances will be Thursdays to Saturdays, July 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 at 8 pm, and Saturday, July 24, and Sunday, Aug 1, at 2 pm. Theater: Fast Trip to Omaha, Warehouse Performing Arts Center, 9216-A Westmoreland Rd., Cornelius – The Warehouse Performing Arts center presents Fast Trip to Omaha, a comedy about a dysfunctional family, set against the backdrop of the summer of 1969. Performances on Thursday through Saturdays, July 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31 at 8 pm, and matinees Sundays July 25 and Aug. 1 at 2 pm. Renaissance Festival Auditions, Sat. July 24 and Wed., July 28 – The Carolina Renaissance Festival will be holding open auditions on July 24th (9 a.m.-noon, Spirit Square Arts Center, 345 North College St., Charlotte) and July 28th (6:30 to 9:00pm) for street characters, musicians, dancers and variety acts. Adult female actors are needed for the role of Mother Goose, as well as adult male actors for the roles of Town Crier and Royal Guard. Professional and amateur opportunities are available. Prepared material is not required. Head shot and resume appreciated but not required. Anyone under the age of 12 must participate with a parent.
