A delegation of youth and adults from Davidson College Presbyterian Church is in Louisiana this week to work Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to rebuild houses for those impacted by hurricane Katrina. DCPC will also host Dr. James ‘Mickey’ Efird in August to lead a discussion about the misunderstood Book of Revelations. The New Community of Faith in Davidson is holding discussions on A Generous Orthodoxy and faith journeys beginning in late July. Opportunities for children include the Vacation Bible School at Mt. A Congregational meeting was held last Sunday at Davidson College Presbyterian Church to act on the Rev. Shelli Latham’s request that her relationship to DCPC as Associate Pastor be dissolved and to elect elders and deacons. (Rev. Latham is leaving DCPC to take up a job in Pennsylvania. (See our June 25 news item.)

Youth Mission Trip – On July 11-17, twenty-five youth and adults from DCPC are serving with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance in Houma, Louisiana. The group will build houses for those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Please lift up this group this week as they travel, work hard in the heat, make new friends and show God’s love to people on the Gulf Coast. Interim Associate Pastor search – The Interim Associate Pastor committee seeks an ordained pastor who can assist with a broad range of pastoral responsibilities during the transition time our congregation currently faces. Dr. James ‘Mickey’ Efird will lead a study on the Book of Revelation on Saturday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m.-noon in the DCPC Congregation House. This compelling study dispels the myths about end times and reclaims the hope for all Christians found in this most misunderstood book of the Bible. Dr. Efird is Professor Emeritus at Duke Divinity School, having taught thousands of seminarians Greek and Biblical studies. The Book of Revelation is the study for Presbyterian Women for 2010-2011, but all adults will find this seminar helpful and insightful. All are welcome. Cost is $5 per person and $5 for child care. Vacation Bible School – Mt. Zion will host a “High Seas Adventure” themed Vacation Bible School from Monday, Aug. 2 to Friday, Aug. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Activities will include Bible stories of adventures on the high seas with Paul, crafts, games, video, music, and worship. Children will be grouped by age: groups for preschool children – Ages 3, 4 and 5 years and groups for elementary children – rising 1st-5th graders. NEW COMMUNITY OF FAITH IN DAVIDSON
The New Faith Community of Lake Norman: Encouraging Your Search for a Resonant Jesus Faith Experience invites all to participate in two upcoming small group opportunities. The first opportunity is a five-week, small group discussion of A Generous Orthodoxy by Brian McLaren. Meetings will be held on both Sundays and Mondays; the first Sunday meeting will be July 25 at 11 am and the first Monday meeting will be July 26 at 11 am.
Meetings will be at Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 South Main Street, Davidson or in Room 211 of the Alexander Education Building. On Wednesdays for 6:30 to 8:30 pm, the New Faith Community holds a “Living the Questions” discussion of faith journeys at DUMC, Room 214. All are welcome to attend.
