This week ahead in and around Davidson features a pair of blood drives. Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. teen workshop performs a children’s theater show called “The Connie Company: Wild, Woolly and Wonderful.” Meanwhile, don’t miss out on Friday evening’s Concert on the Green, where the Alabama Blues Brothers will be performing. Saturday is full of activities, from the weekly Davidson Farmer’s Market to a Shoes of Hope free shoe giveaway at Ada Jenkins Center. Town Board meeting, 6 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Town Board monthly meeting. Agenda includes presentations on the Davidson College master plan, an amendment to the Solid Waste Management Plan, and town information technology operations, as well as an update from the head of the Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Corp. Nuclear siren test, 11: 50 a.m. – The McGuire Nuclear Station will perform its emergency siren test. Hearing the siren does not mean to evacuate. The siren is a signal for residents to tune into a radio or TV station that would carry an emergency alerting message.

Teen summer film at the library, noon, Davidson public library branch, on the Village Green – Teen summer film program will show “Invictus,” the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help unite their country. Rated PG-13; 133 minutes. Audience: Teens (12-18). Details on the library website.

Cotton Mill blood drive, 3-8 p.m., Old Cotton Mill, 209 Delburg St. – Mooresville student Claire Lockman and Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will hold a blood drive. Ben & Jerry’s blood drive, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, 202 S. Main St. – American Red Cross and Ben & Jerry’s host a “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” blood drive. Donors get free ice cream at the drive, as well as a coupon for a free pint of ice cream. Donors also will get a free Red Cross T-shirt and will be entered in a drawing for a $1,000 gift card.
