^[1]This Fourth of July weekend is full of celebrations. Saturday features community gatherings in Davidson and Mooresville, while Sunday’s events will be in Birkdale, Charlotte, Cornelius. The Davidson celebration on the Village Green Saturday includes a parade and a Concert on the Green. They’ll have the Lake Norman Orchestra and fireworks Saturday at Lowe’s YMCA in Mooresville and Sunday in Charlotte. Cornelius’s event Sunday includes music and ends with an outdoor screening of the film “Avatar.” And don’t forget the Davidson Farmers’ Market downtown on Saturday.

AT THE MOVIES

“Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” the third installment of the popular vampire series, continues its run at Our Town Cinemas, in Sadler Square. Also new this week at the theater: “Grown Ups,” a comedy about five friends reunited for a Fourth of July holiday weekend after their high school basketball coach passes away. They’re also showing “Toy Story 3″ and other films. (See movie listings at right.)

Davidson Independence Day small town parade, 5:15 p.m., Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Join a small-town parade for the holiday. Participants are encouraged to march in the parade dressed in Independence Day attire – dress up your wagons, tricycles and pets with festive red, white and blue. At 5:45 p.m. the parade will leave Town Hall and march across to the Village Green, ending at the North Main and Concord crosswalk. July 4th fireworks festival in Charlotte, 6-10 p.m., fireworks approximately 9:30, Memorial Stadium, North Kings Drive – Mecklenburg County Parks & Rec sponsors the annual July 4 fireworks festival. Cornelius community July 4th celebration, 6:30 p.m., Town Hall lawn, 21445 Catawba Ave. – Join the Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation & Culture Department for a fun and laid-back Independence Day celebrtation. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy music from the ’70s and ’80s with Robin Burke and guest Kary Wall. Also, children’s activities, including rides on a trackless train, spin art and more.
