Summer is on the way, and with it comes new main stage productions at Davidson Community Players. Summer begins with the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “Oklahoma!” June 17-26 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall. Then coming up in July, it’s “Noises Off,” a hilarious farce.
OKLAHOMA!
Tickets are now on sale for the eight-show run of “Oklahoma!” produced by Davidson Community Players and directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge. The show brings back in its lead roles two stars from another recent players’ production – Cassandra Wood and Jack Stevenson, who played opposite one another in “Violet.”
“Oklahoma!” is set in the Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the century, against a background of the rivalry between cattlemen and farmers. It’s the story of farm girl Laurey and the two rivals for her affection: the cowboy Curly, and Jud, the brooding farmhand. This landmark musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein is full of well known songs such as “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” and “People Will Say We’re in Love.”
Ms. Ohlman-Roberge returns to a show she has directed before: It was her first show for the Davidson Community Players in 1993. John Smith is music director.
Performances at Duke Family Performance Hall are June 17-19, and 24-26 at 8 p.m. with additional matinee performances on Sunday, June 20, and Saturday, June 26, at 2 p.m.

NOISES OFF
In July, the Davidson Community Players will produce Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off,” which has been called the funniest farce ever written. In 2002, it returned to Broadway with a cast that included Patti LuPone and Peter Gallagher.
The play follows the trials and tribulations of a malady-riddled stock company in Great Britain. The wonderful convention is that the set revolves so that you see performances of the same play from both the audience’s point of view as well as from back stage.
“Noises Off” also runs at Duke Family Performance Hall, from July 22-Aug. 1. Shows are July 22-24 and 29-31 at 8 p.m., and Sundays July 25 and Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. With mature themes, it’s recommended for ages 14 and up. Tickets are also $15-$22.
SUMMER CAMPS AND SHARINGS
Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. children’s theater will offer a series of summer performances from its teen workshops. “Wild, Wooly and Wonderful” has become an annual favorite that includes the company’s most talented teen actors. Performances are:
