Music, golf, poetry, and a wine festival

[1]Our weekend calendar offers a variety of events from the first Lake Norman Food & Wine Festival on Saturday/Sunday to the weekly Davidson Farmers Market Saturday to a community cookout in Cornelius Saturday. Meanwhile, Sunday is Reptile Day at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. And there’s a free poetry reading at Warehouse PAC in Cornelius with members of the Charlotte Writers Club and writer Richard Anthony. THURSDAY, JUNE 3

Jim “O” Hacker Memorial Golf Tournament, 8:30 a.m., shotgun start, Birkdale Golf Club, 16500 Birkdale Commons Parkway – Benefit golf tournament for Charlotte Volunteers in Medicine medical clinic, which provides primary care to the needy. $75 per person or $300 for a team, includes cart, greens fees, range balls, breakfast, lunch. SATURDAY, JUNE 5

Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival, 10:30am-6pm, Kenton Place, West Catawba Avenue, Cornelius – There will be a variety of participating wineries that will offer many attendees a glimpse of local wines that are not widely available. In addition to wine tastings, the Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival will feature area restaurants and vendors. The Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival was founded to benefit local charities in need and has filed for its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. The festival will be donating proceeds to Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen in Huntersville, Hope House and the Mooresville Soup Kitchen. Methodist Day of Service, 7:30 a.m. – All Methodist churches in the Lake Norman District will gather for a day of service to our community on Saturday, June 5. Volunteers are asked to meet at either Huntersville or Broad Street United Methodist Church at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast and sending forth. Davidson Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to noon, off Main Street next to Town Hall – Weekly Davidson Farmers Market, with local farmers and vendors selling meats, produce, dairy products, baked goods, and other items. Community Cookout, 5-8 p.m., Cornelius Presbyterian Church, 21209 Catawba Ave., Cornelius – Come and Meet your neighbors at the church’s annual community Cookout. Free and open to the community, with hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade ice cream and more will be served. Bingo, games/prizes will be after dinner.
