Davidson Parks & Recreation has openings for a variety of youth summer camps. The department has about five tickets left in a local trip to see the hit musical “Wicked” in Charlotte on June 1. And Parks & Rec is offering a day trip to the Levering Orchard in Mount Airy on Wednesday, June 9. Read on for details.

WICKED TICKETS

The Town of Davidson Parks & Recreation department has center mezzanine seating tickets to the Broadway show “Wicked” on June 1 at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte. The $80 per person fee includes transportation to and from the show and center mezzanine seating.

The bus leaves from the Parks & Recreation office, 416 Armour St., at 6:15 p.m. on June 1 and should return by 11:30 p.m.

Here’s what USA Today said about the musical: “Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz.One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for “the most complete and completely satisfying new musical in a long time.”

ORCHARD DAY TRIP

Take a day to pick cherries right off of the tree at Levering Orchards in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We will stop in Mt. Airy for lunch afterward and take some time to walk through the downtown area before departing back for Davidson. The trip is Wednesday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fee is $20 (Includes transportation). Call 704-892-3349 to register.

The Town of Davidson has openings in the following Youth Summer Programs.  To make your choices easier, we have listed the camps by week.

Week of June 14
Preschool Camps: “Pirate” for 4-6 years olds, “Princess” for 4-6 year olds, “Sand & Sea” for 3 year olds, and Pre-Piano Presto Camp for 4-6 year olds and 7-11 year olds.

Week of June 21
Wild, Wooly Wonderful Summer Drama for 4-5 year olds, Preschool Construction and Preschool Princess for 4-6 year olds, Youth Sailing Experience for 11-17 year olds, Traveling Around Latin America for 5-11 year olds, Photo Fun for 9-15 year olds, LEGO (Elementary Engineering) for ages 8 and up, Creative Writing 101, Herpetology – The camp will explore the amphibian and reptile populations in our surrounding environment and take an in-depth look at what makes these creatures so unique., Ornithology – This one-week camp will look to the sky for its inspiration: birds! Participants will have the opportunity to become field biologists that identify birds in our region, dissect owl pellets, construct food chains and webs, and learn to use and construct dichotomous keys., and Soccer for 4-7 and 8-14 year olds.

Week of June 28
Preschool Insects for 4-6 year olds, Doll Fashion Design for 7-12 year olds, and Golf for 8-13 year olds. 

Week of July 5
Wild, Wooly Wonderful Summer Drama for 10-12 year olds, Baseball for 8-14 year olds with Dick Cooke of Davidson College. 

Week of July 12
Preschool “It’s a Jungle” for 3 year olds, Visiting the Pet Store for 5-9 year olds, Science in Motion for 6-11 year olds, Soccer for 4-7 and 8-14 year olds and Kreative Kids Idol for 9-11 year olds.

Week of July 19
Preschool Hop Aboard for 3 year olds, Pre-Piano Presto Camp for 4-6 year olds and 7-11 year olds., Youth Sailing Experience for 11-17 year olds, Golf for 8-13 year olds and Basketball for ages 7-14.

Week of July 26 – Wild, Wooly Wonderful Summer Drama for 4-5 year olds, Preschool “Down on the Farm” for 3 year olds, Preschool “Reptile/Amphibian” for 5-6 year olds, Basketball(ages 5-6), Art with Masters for grades 2 and up, Bowling Camp for 6-14 year olds, Drum for 8-14 year olds and Soccer for 4-7 and 8-14 year olds. 

Week of August 2 – Wild, Wooly Wonderful Summer Drama for 4-5 year olds, Preschool “Pet Shop Pals” for 3 year olds, Preschool “Dinosaur” for 5-6 year olds, Etiquette for Today for 9-12 year olds, LEGO Battle Bots for ages 8 and up, Kreative Kids Idol for 7-8 year olds, and Bowling Camp for 6-14 year olds.  

Week of August 9 – Earth Exploration for 4-6 year olds, Jewelry Making for 7-12 year olds, Blast Off to Space for 8-12 year olds, Kreative Kids Idol for 5-6 year olds and Fencing for 8-16 year olds. 

Week of August 16 – Tacos in the Fiesta for 6-12 year olds and Crime Scene Investigation for 8-12 year olds.
